This is where the EN388 mechanical rating comes in. The EN388 rating is a European testing standard that measures the resistance of gloves to mechanical hazards. These hazards include abrasions, cuts, tears, and punctures – all of which are common risks in many workplaces.
The EN388 rating system assigns a score to each of these hazards on a scale of 0 to 4, with 4 being the highest level of protection. The four digits of the EN388 rating correspond to each of the hazards, in order: abrasion resistance, cut resistance, tear resistance, and puncture resistance. For example, a glove with a rating of 1111 would provide the lowest level of protection in each category, while a glove with a rating of 4444 would provide the highest level of protection in each category.
